YOU ARE NEVER OUT OF THE FIGHT!

Outrigger Canoeing

An Outrigger Canoe is a watercraft that uses one or more lateral supports known as outriggers. The canoes can vary in size and shape. The multiple hulls of the vessel and the shape of the vessel increase hydrodynamic efficiency. The sport of Out rigger Canoeing has a rich history in and originates from the Austronesian speaking peoples of Southeast Asia. Outrigger Canoe racing is the national team sport of Hawaii and typically has a crew of five with a steerer.

Competitions

  • Sydney Harbour Challenge – Sydney 22km’s
  • Na Koa Wounded Warrior Regatta – Hawaii – 400m
  • Na Koa Wounded Warrior Regatta – Hawaii 22 Mile

Why Out Rigger Canoeing?

The benefits of water sports such as outrigger canoeing have been found to be extremely beneficial to aid recovery from many of the injuries and illnesses associated with service life. The comradery and competitive spirit transfers well across to team paddling sports such as outrigging, not including the obvious physical health benefits of strength and endurance training. We aim to have teams all over Australia to compete in the AOCRA seasonal national zones for short and long course races. These events connect Australian veterans with service personnel from all over the world.
